Russian President Vladimir Putin, who arrived in New Delhi on a three-day visit, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bilateral talks on Thursday.

The meeting took place at Bharat Mandapam after Putin received a ceremonial welcome at the airport. The visit comes ahead of the BRICS summit scheduled in Delhi on September 12 and 13.

During the interaction, Modi presented Putin with a copy of the Thirukkural translated into Russian as a gift.

Officials said the leaders are discussing issues including trade, investment and energy cooperation. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and other senior officials were present from the Indian side, while senior Russian officials accompanied Putin.

Putin had visited Delhi last year for the India–Russia summit, and the two leaders also held talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in Bishkek last month.
