A general shutdown in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir disrupted daily life after a call by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), according to reports.
Residents in the region have been protesting to press for what they describe as their basic rights, with the JAAC leading and coordinating the agitation.
The report said the Pakistani government has used multiple measures to curb the protests. It alleged that several innocent civilians have been killed, and that internet restrictions and strict media curbs were imposed to conceal the crackdown.
As the agitation continues to intensify, the strike brought commercial activity to a standstill. Major business hubs, local markets and trading establishments remained shut.
Public transport services were halted, and key roads were largely empty with minimal movement, the report added.
