Tamil Nadu government has announced that the public can download digital Driving Licence (DL) and vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) documents on their own from September 12.
The move follows Chief Minister Vijay’s statement in the Assembly on September 2 under Rule 110, where he said DL and RC certificates would be made available for self-download in digital format.
An official government order has now been issued, confirming that the new procedure will come into effect from September 12. Under the system, once the registration process for a new vehicle is completed, the digital RC can be downloaded directly online.
For applicants who pass the driving test, the digital driving licence will be issued on the same day the test is completed. The documents will carry a QR code, enabling government offices and authorised institutions to verify them electronically.
The government said these digital certificates can be downloaded free of cost for one year, and the QR code can be used to check the authenticity of the documents.
