Chief Minister Vijay is expected to campaign alongside leaders of his coalition in joint public meetings in the constituencies heading for by-elections, according to reports.

The bypolls are scheduled for October 6 in the vacant Maduranthakam and Dharapuram Assembly segments. The alliance, led by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), includes the Congress, MDMK, VCK and the Indian Union Muslim League.

With this being the first by-election after the coalition was formed, the alliance plans to take its message to voters by highlighting the TVK government’s achievements through public meetings in the two constituencies.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko is said to have expressed the view that Vijay should appear on the same stage with coalition leaders, a proposal the Chief Minister has accepted.

TVK functionaries said a joint campaign would signal unity to voters and draw political attention, adding that Vijay’s outreach as Chief Minister could help strengthen the alliance’s prospects in the bypolls.
