The 18th BRICS Summit began in New Delhi on Saturday (September 12) and will conclude on Sunday. India is hosting the two-day meeting as part of its leadership role for this year.

BRICS originally comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The grouping expanded in 2024 with the inclusion of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.

The summit is being held at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the visiting leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

With heads of state and delegations camped in the capital for the event, Delhi has been placed under heightened security across the city.
