Uttarakhand Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has announced that he is stepping down from his party posts after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized cash and valuables from the house of his former aide.

According to the report, the ED conducted a search at the residence of Chandan Singh Jeena, who served as a special duty officer during Rawat’s tenure as Chief Minister between 2014 and 2017. The raid was linked to allegations of irregularities in the selection process for the Gram Panchayat Vikas Adhikari examination.

During the search, officials reportedly recovered unaccounted cash, gold and luxury wristwatches. Following the seizure, Rawat said he did not want the issue—whether connected to him or his aide—to bring disrepute to the Congress.

Rawat also said his decision was taken to ensure that Rahul Gandhi’s anti-corruption campaign is not weakened in any manner. He further alleged that instead of knocking on his door, an attempt was being made to “create a story” by targeting one of his associates.
