Tamil Nadu Congress president Manickam Tagore said Chief Minister Vijay will campaign across the state to support senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate.

Tagore described Rahul as the prime ministerial face of the INDIA alliance, and also as the candidate of a “secular social justice victory alliance” in Tamil Nadu.

He added that the state government has initiated steps towards building a new Secretariat, noting that the idea had been discussed by previous administrations as well.

On the issue of Tamil Nadu fishermen, Tagore said the Union government could pay the fines imposed by Sri Lanka if it chose to do so, but called the very imposition of such fines a major embarrassment for the Ministry of External Affairs.
