Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that genuine knowledge should never be confined within ideological boundaries. He made the remarks while addressing a programme at the Asiatic Society in Mumbai.
Speaking at the Sri Ganesh Gyanarathi exhibition held on September 13, Shah said knowledge itself is a distinct idea, and limiting it to a narrow frame strips it of its real meaning.
He also spoke about the need to present historical facts from an Indian perspective, stressing that recovering history does not mean erasing the past. Countries that ignore their heritage, he said, risk decline.
Referring to India’s continuity, Shah said the nation has endured by protecting its history, traditions and cultural values. He cited the burning of the Nalanda library to underline that heritage survived through memory and tradition despite the loss of texts.
Shah further said the Asiatic Society’s collections in Mumbai should be made more easily accessible for the broader benefit of society.
