Chennai: BJP Tamil Nadu secretary Aswathaman said the Tamil daily Dinamalar continues to travel strongly on the principle of nationalism, and does not compromise on reporting related to the nation’s development and economic progress.
Speaking on the topic “Is Dinamalar’s political outlook party-aligned or non-aligned?”, he argued that the newspaper has stayed on the nationalist path without deviation. Referring to remarks by Congress Tamil Nadu vice-president Gopanna, Aswathaman said it is the Congress that has moved away from nationalism, and added that nationalism is often linked to the BJP because, in his view, the party follows that line firmly.
He also said a party does not become “national” merely by having branches across the country, but by holding nationalism as a principle. On criticism that Dinamalar is politically biased—often framed as being pro-BJP—he claimed the paper has also caused discomfort to the BJP, saying party members react strongly when a report appears in Dinamalar.
Aswathaman further said media should not only provide what readers want to read, but also what they need to read, and claimed Dinamalar does this without shaping news for advertising. He urged the daily to develop its own AI system by digitising and indexing 75 years of journalism and turning it into a mobile app to help verify the authenticity of current news.
