Communist parties have announced that they will contest the by-elections in the Dharapuram and Maduranthakam Assembly constituencies on their own.
The bypolls were notified after the sitting MLAs from both constituencies, who had earlier won on the AIADMK ticket, resigned and joined the TVK. Following the announcement, candidates have already been named by the AIADMK, DMK and TVK.
In this backdrop, the Communist parties said they will field separate candidates in the two seats. CPI state secretary Veerappandian said the CPI will contest in Dharapuram, while the CPI(M) will contest in Maduranthakam.
He added that the names of the candidates will be announced on September 15.
The decision has drawn attention as the Communist parties have been extending outside support to the TVK government, even as they now plan to enter the bypoll fray independently.
