New Delhi: A district-level review meeting on constituency development in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli turned tense after Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi raised complaints about local infrastructure.
According to the report, Rahul Gandhi told the district collector that roads in his constituency were in poor condition and showed a video as evidence. The collector reportedly responded that the footage was not from the constituency, which led to an angry reaction from the MP.
Rahul Gandhi then shifted to another issue, alleging that the ‘Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child’ initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Haryana in January 2015 was not being implemented effectively in Uttar Pradesh.
The meeting saw further disruption when a BJP MLA questioned the absence of Priyanka Gandhi, referring to her earlier political challenge in Uttar Pradesh and asking why she had “moved to Kerala.” BJP members were also quoted as alleging that Rahul Gandhi reads from prepared notes without fully understanding them, triggering fresh political sparring.
