Union Minister of State L Murugan on Monday took a swipe at the Communist parties, alleging they are in a “confused state of mind” over their position in the upcoming by-elections.

Bypolls are scheduled on October 6 for the Dharapuram and Maduranthakam constituencies. The Communist parties have announced that they will contest independently in both seats.

Murugan questioned the rationale of contesting separately while also being in a position of supporting the ruling alliance. He said the parties must clearly decide what their stand is in the election.

Accusing them of taking “two positions”, he said such a stance creates confusion among the public as well. He added that this reflects a lack of clarity in the Communist parties’ approach to the bypolls.
