Opposition leader Udhayanidhi on Sunday called on DMK cadres to ensure victory in the upcoming by-elections to two Assembly constituencies, saying the results should signal the start of the ruling party’s decline.
He made the remarks while attending the wedding of a DMK functionary from Chennai’s Velachery area, held under his leadership.
In his speech, Udhayanidhi said the DMK has seen many wins and losses, and claimed that despite losing the last Assembly election, the party has been functioning as an effective opposition by standing with the people.
He alleged that Tamil Nadu is facing frequent power cuts, a deteriorating law-and-order situation, and rising prices and shortages of essentials such as rice and pulses. He also claimed the Chief Minister is unable to answer questions on these issues.
Udhayanidhi further alleged that the bypolls were necessitated after MLAs from another party were “bought” to form the government. He urged DMK members to take a pledge to deliver a strong message to the ruling party through the bypoll verdict.
