Leaders of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are expected to release a joint declaration on Monday, signalling their intent to pursue separation from the United Kingdom.
Though these nations are recognised as distinct countries, they currently operate under the UK’s constitutional framework. In recent years, parties backing separatist policies have gained power and influence across the three regions.
In Wales, Plaid Cymru has emerged as the largest party. Scotland’s Scottish National Party (SNP) and Northern Ireland’s Sinn Féin are also described as major political forces, creating conditions for coordinated political action.
The leaders will meet in Cardiff, the Welsh capital, where they are reportedly set to sign a declaration demanding the right to conduct public referendums on leaving the UK.
The report also says the move has received support from US President Donald Trump.
