Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay on Monday paid tributes to former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai on his birth anniversary, calling on people to take a pledge to safeguard the pride of the Tamil language.
In a statement, Vijay said Annadurai opened a new chapter in Tamil Nadu’s political history and consistently raised his voice for the rights of the poor and the underprivileged. He said Annadurai’s vision and public service continue to inspire.
Recalling Annadurai’s impact as an orator and writer, the Chief Minister noted that he won public support to assume office and, driven by deep love for Tamil, renamed the state as “Tamil Nadu”. He also cited Annadurai’s role in laying the foundation for state autonomy and granting legal recognition to self-respect marriages.
Vijay urged people to carry forward Annadurai’s ideals and slogans such as “Duty, dignity, discipline” and “Let us see God in the smile of the poor”, and to pledge for the growth of social justice, equality and fraternity, while protecting Tamil pride.
