DMK candidates filed their nomination papers on Monday (Sept 15) for the by-elections to the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu.

The Election Commission has announced that polling for the two constituencies will be held on October 6. The contest is shaping up as a five-cornered fight involving the DMK, AIADMK, the Communist party, Naam Tamilar Katchi and TAVEK.

In Dharapuram, DMK candidate Suganya submitted her nomination. In Madurantakam, DMK candidate Parandhaman filed his papers and told reporters that he was filing with the wishes of DMK leader M.K. Stalin and Udhayanidhi Stalin, adding that the party would not “deceive” voters and would win despite a multi-cornered contest.

September 17 has been set as the last date for filing nominations, while September 19 is the deadline for withdrawal. Vote counting is scheduled for October 9, when the results will be known.
