Chennai: Tamil Nadu Power Minister Nirmal Kumar on Tuesday accused the DMK of resorting to “vulgarity” when it is unable to respond to questions raised against it.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said there was no power shortage anywhere in the state, adding that only a brief outage of about two minutes occurred while leaders were speaking. He also acknowledged a current shortfall of around 1,500 MW and said steps were under way to address it.
Nirmal Kumar said such shortages were being seen across states, and attributed the situation to reduced wind power generation. He added that the government was planning to procure an additional 3,500 MW of electricity to manage the demand.
On political controversies, he said issues such as MISA, Katchatheevu and the Sarkaria Commission had been debated for decades in the Assembly, and questioned why they continued to remain contentious. He also referred to the Murassoli office “Panchami land” allegation and said the DMK itself was keeping the matter alive by raising it as a privilege issue.
