Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday advised Gen Z youth to “never give up on the country” and to place the nation above all else.

Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute in Chennai, she said educated young people must take responsibility for understanding the realities around them and respond with maturity.

She urged students to step up as leaders in their communities—through the way they conduct themselves and speak—and to accept leadership roles with patience and good conduct.

Emphasising that the country should come first, Sitharaman said the well-being of citizens depends on the nation’s strength. She called on graduates attending the ceremony to contribute to keeping the country on the right path so that everyone can live well.
