HR&CE Minister Ramesh on Sunday alleged that making derogatory remarks about others has become a habit for the DMK, calling it the party’s “DNA”. He made the comments while speaking at Tiruchirappalli’s Rockfort.

Referring to criticism from the opposition, Ramesh questioned what was wrong with Chief Minister Vijay flagging off actor Ajith’s car race event in London, noting that Ajith is a close friend from the film industry. He said the opposition keeps finding fault because it is seated in opposition.

Ramesh also claimed that law-and-order issues that arose during a previous DMK regime are still continuing, and said the current administration is working to set things right. He added that some protests are being held for political reasons, and said protests by DMK members were not wrong in themselves.

However, he said the government objected to obscene and low-level remarks directed at the Chief Minister and ministers. He reiterated that insulting others is a skill the DMK has mastered.

On former DMK minister Sekar Babu’s visit to the Tiruvannamalai temple, Ramesh asked why it should be considered wrong if he went for darshan in the general queue along with the public. He also criticised the idea that HR&CE staff should be there to escort politicians inside, and said Sekar Babu—who had earlier mocked devotees waiting for hours—would now understand that hardship.
