Salem: Twenty-five new town buses in the Salem region have been readied for service after being painted in yellow and red, colours associated with the TVK party flag.

Government buses had earlier shifted to a green colour scheme during the Jayalalithaa administration. Even as DMK and AIADMK alternated in power later, the bus colour was not changed.

Following TVK’s victory in the 2026 Assembly election, the new colour scheme has now appeared on a set of buses being prepared in Salem.

According to details from the depot, 492 government town buses operate under the Salem workshop. As part of replacement for buses older than 15 years, new vehicles have been brought in, and in the first phase, 25 buses have been painted and parked at the Johnsonpet depot, ready for operation.

Transport officials in Salem said 25 new town buses have arrived and that action will be taken to run them in response to a long-standing public demand, adding that they had no information about the choice of colours.
