Vellore witnessed an unusual moment on Monday night when Minister Sengottaiyan continued a media interaction using the light from a mobile phone after a sudden power outage at the government tourist bungalow.
According to officials present, the interruption left the venue without adequate lighting for a brief period. Power supply was restored shortly afterwards, but the incident drew attention as it occurred amid claims of unannounced power cuts across Tamil Nadu.
During the interview, the minister addressed criticism surrounding the government’s proposed legal amendment that would make it easier to convert agricultural land for other uses. He said farm inputs such as seeds and fertilisers are being provided and that food production has increased compared to earlier years.
He also stated that land tax is not in place in Tamil Nadu now, noting that it existed during British rule. On the upcoming by-elections, he said the decision of the two Communist parties to contest separately would not cause any setback to the T.Ve.K.
Responding to calls by Communist leaders for a white paper on Chief Minister Vijay’s London visit, Sengottaiyan said it is easy to comment from outside and stressed that attracting investors requires infrastructure, uninterrupted power supply and transport facilities.
