Washington: US President Donald Trump has blamed the Russia-Ukraine war for the recent rise in petrol and diesel prices worldwide, arguing that Iran is not the primary reason.
According to the report, Ukraine has in recent months used drones to strike key Russian crude oil refineries. The attacks have reportedly led to fuel shortages in Russia, prompting Moscow to impose a ban on diesel exports.
Trump said he had warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop attacks on Russia’s refineries and diesel production centres. He now claims Ukraine has agreed to halt strikes on Russian energy targets, and that Russia has also agreed to do the same.
In his statement, Trump reiterated that he would not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. He also said Iran is eager to reach an agreement and that he will decide whether the US accepts it, adding that the US is ready for a deal.
Trump further argued that countries that did not help the US in the conflict continue to transport crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz, and said they should support the US more.
