Madurai: Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister Ramesh on Tuesday said Tamil would continue to be given priority in temple consecration-related rituals, and that Tamil reciters would be arranged wherever yajna hall (yagasalai) ceremonies are held.
His remarks came after Tamil reciters staged a protest in front of the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, seeking permission to participate in the kumbabishekam. Minister Nirmalkumar held talks with the protesters at the spot.
Speaking to reporters, Ramesh said arrangements had been made for conducting the relevant prayers and recitations in Tamil during yagasalai rituals. He added that Tamil reciters are being appointed at all such locations.
The minister said 27 Tamil reciters from across Tamil Nadu had been specially brought to Madurai and have been working since September 11. He also said they would definitely participate in the Meenakshi Amman Temple kumbabishekam.
Ramesh further stated that only government-appointed reciters are currently working in the temple and that none of them were involved in the protest.
