Congress is learnt to be planning a fresh organisational reshuffle, with a proposal to appoint 56 national secretaries who would work under the party’s national general secretaries.

According to sources, a performance review of key office-bearers was held in Delhi on Wednesday under the leadership of Rahul, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Priyanka and K C Venugopal, among others, attended the meeting.

During the discussions, the party is said to have explored the appointment of national secretaries as part of the new structure. The move is being seen as an attempt to strengthen the party’s organisational presence across states.

Rahul is also said to have instructed that the proposed national secretaries should not operate only from Delhi. Instead, they would be expected to stay in their allotted states for at least 15 days and meet people to hear grievances.

The development comes amid references to the BJP’s recent organisational appointments, where 16 people were named as national secretaries, with Congress reportedly considering a similar step.
