RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said that “dharma is in our DNA” and that it naturally guides human beings. He was speaking at a programme held in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
Bhagwat noted that in today’s times it is rare to hear young people show interest in discussions on dharma. He said many assume dharma is only for the elderly, and that texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Ramayana are meant to be read only after retirement.
Rejecting that view, he said dharma is something everyone can practise, even if one does not explicitly believe in it. To illustrate, he pointed to the certainty of the sun rising and setting as part of nature.
He added that human ego often leads people to think everything operates under their control, and to expect even natural events to happen according to their wishes. Bhagwat said the reality is different, arguing that dharma is above religion and leads the way to moksha (liberation).
