The Madras High Court has issued notice to cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, directing him to file a response by October 9 on a petition seeking video-recording of his deposition in a defamation case.
Dhoni had moved the High Court in 2014, seeking Rs 100 crore as damages from IPS officer Sampathkumar, alleging that defamatory remarks were made against him during a television debate linked to the IPL betting case.
In the ongoing proceedings, the High Court had earlier ordered that Dhoni’s deposition be recorded through an advocate commissioner.
Sampathkumar, now retired, has filed a fresh petition requesting that the deposition be video recorded. He also sought directions to appoint a judge to oversee the process, provide him an unedited copy of the recording, and ensure the deposition is held in a court or government building rather than at a five-star hotel or private bungalow.
The petition came up before Justice Govindarajan Thilakavathi, who granted time to Dhoni to respond and adjourned the matter.
