Relatives of Tamil tourists reported missing in Nepal after last month’s floods say they are facing daily hardships in accessing essential services in India.

According to the information available, 305 people from Tamil Nadu who had travelled to Nepal were caught in the floods on the 26th of last month. While 220 were rescued, 85 people remain unaccounted for, leaving families without updates.

Search operations are continuing in Nepal, and three officials have been stationed in Kathmandu as part of the ongoing efforts to trace the missing persons.

Families say a major problem is that the missing persons’ mobile numbers are linked to multiple government and service platforms. As a result, they are unable to complete tasks that require OTP or registered-number verification.

They claim this has affected LPG cylinder bookings, bank withdrawals and access to pensions received by the missing individuals, and have urged the government to step in and provide a solution.
