The long-pending Kishau multipurpose project, aimed at using Yamuna basin water for irrigation, power generation and drinking water, has moved to its next stage after years of delay.

Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana signed an agreement to take the project forward. The pact was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Once implemented, the project is expected to provide irrigation to about 97,000 hectares of agricultural land. Water stored in the dam will also be used to meet drinking and industrial water requirements in Delhi and Rajasthan.

The stored water is also intended to increase the flow of the Yamuna and support efforts to rejuvenate the river, according to the details shared about the project.
