Madurai: Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister Ramesh on Tuesday said the Karthigai Deepam at Thiruparankundram would be celebrated joyfully by the public and that there was “no problem” with the festival.

Speaking to reporters in Madurai, the minister said people need not worry about the Thiruparankundram Deepam matter and added that the situation should be viewed after the Supreme Court delivers its verdict.

He also said action would be taken if anyone had secured employment in temples using fake educational certificates.

On temple elephants, Ramesh said donors provide elephants to temples with court permission, and that the animals are monitored and cared for by mahouts.

In the same interaction, he made political remarks, stating that his party would win the upcoming by-elections and referring to the party’s stance on E.V. Ramasamy’s atheistic ideology, while asserting that the Chief Minister views all religions and people as equal.
