The Madras High Court has observed that no amount of money can make up for the absence of family support needed during old age.
The remarks came while hearing a petition filed by Suraj, who challenged an order of the Chennai Family Welfare Court directing him to pay ₹75,000 per month as maintenance to his 80-year-old father, Goyal, a Chennai resident who had been engaged in manufacturing household-use products.
Goyal had approached the family court stating that after transferring his house to his son, he was not being cared for and sought maintenance expenses.
Justice Sundar Mohan, however, set aside the family court’s order, holding that Goyal was not entitled to claim maintenance after allegedly concealing rental income received from other properties.
At the same time, the judge expressed hope that the issues between the father and son would be resolved and that an amicable relationship would be restored.
