Hindu Munnani has cautioned that Tamil Nadu could face serious security risks due to what it described as growing support networks for terrorism. The organisation urged the state government to suppress such activities “with an iron hand,” without any compromise.
In a statement, state president Kadeswara Subramaniam referred to an incident during a Vinayagar Chaturthi procession in Srivilliputhur, Virudhunagar district. He alleged that two persons threatened, in the presence of police, that a bomb would explode if slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” were raised in front of a mosque.
While the police reportedly arrested the two, the statement questioned why they were released within hours, calling the development “mysterious.” It also raised suspicion over whether some groups were attempting to create pressure on the Tamil Nadu government.
The statement further cited reports of a suspected terrorist from Uttar Pradesh who had been hiding in Coimbatore and was arrested by that state’s Anti-Terrorism Squad. It claimed he had created and operated a social media platform to connect with other extremists.
Warning that political pressure should not restrict policing, the organisation said any curbs on law enforcement could lead to grave consequences. It appealed to the Chief Minister to ensure police are given full freedom to act decisively on security matters.
