Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India has achieved “extensive progress” across environment-related sectors over the last 12 years. He made the remarks at an event in New Delhi.
During the programme, the Prime Minister launched a mobile application of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The app is intended to help lawyers and the public easily access information such as the status of environmental cases and the tribunal’s case list.
Modi pointed to India’s ban on single-use plastic as one of the steps reflecting the country’s environmental commitment. He also cited initiatives such as metro rail expansion and the biofuel alliance.
Highlighting urban transport changes, he said that before 2014, metro services were available only in five cities and the total network length was under 250 km.
He added that India’s development is fast as well as sustainable, and said unprecedented work is underway in water conservation, including the creation of 1.5 crore water-harvesting structures across the country.
