Pakistan has announced a set of austerity measures to conserve fuel, citing a tense situation in West Asia that could disrupt global crude oil supplies.
According to the announcement, crude exports have been affected by multiple flashpoints, including Iran–US tensions linked to the Strait of Hormuz and conflict involving Iran-backed Houthi militants and Saudi Arabia around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea region.
As part of the fuel-saving plan, the government has imposed a complete ban on the purchase of new government vehicles and reduced fuel allocations for official vehicles by 50%.
Additional restrictions include limiting wedding functions to serving only one food item and banning foreign travel by government officials.
Authorities have also ordered commercial complexes to close by 10:00 pm and restaurants by 11:00 pm, while essential services have been exempted from these curbs.
