TASMAC has decided to relocate 200 liquor shops based on complaints received from the public, officials said in Chennai.
After the T.Ve.K. government led by Chief Minister Vijay took office, 717 liquor shops located within 500 metres of educational institutions, places of worship and bus stands were shut down. However, residents alleged that several outlets near homes and bus stands continued to operate, raising concerns over possible law-and-order issues.
Following these representations, TASMAC district managers have begun compiling details of outlets said to be causing inconvenience to the public. Based on this assessment, 200 shops are set to be shifted.
A TASMAC official said inspections are being carried out in response to complaints, and shops will be moved once issues are confirmed. The official added that new sites are currently being identified for the relocation exercise.
