Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has been holding student interaction programmes across different cities. During one such event in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, a moment on stage drew sharp reactions from political rivals.
According to the report, while Rahul Gandhi was seated on the dais, a person carrying a microphone came onto the stage, hugged him and spoke to him while laughing. The person then gestured toward the audience, continued laughing, and repeated the hug, along with other actions.
The report describes the episode as part of a stage act aimed at mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It argues that such gestures were intended to demean the Prime Minister rather than focus on the student interaction.
BJP leaders criticised the incident, alleging that Rahul Gandhi’s politics has fallen to a low level and calling it another example of “poor taste”. The report also cites neutral observers as saying that ridiculing a leader’s body language—especially when led by the Opposition leader—is not acceptable.
