New Delhi: BJP leaders on Friday criticised Rahul Gandhi for sharing a stage with a comedian who, they alleged, mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The remarks came in a series of statements issued by BJP leaders.
Union minister Kiren Rijiju said Congress had “turned into a party full of comedians and jokers” and claimed the party would not be able to return to power. He also said Indians take pride in PM Modi’s popularity among elected leaders globally.
Union minister Pralhad Joshi accused Rahul and the Congress of “moral bankruptcy”, alleging they used a student event to ridicule and insult the Prime Minister’s late mother. He said political opposition should be based on policy and vision, not personal attacks, and added that the post of Leader of Opposition carries responsibility.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said Rahul’s reaction on stage reflected poorly on his political upbringing. BJP spokesperson C.R. Kesavan alleged the event included derogatory comments targeting an elderly woman and said such behaviour was unbecoming of public life, adding that it alienates young people from the Congress.
