Maharashtra Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Munde has been carrying out frequent inspections at restaurants since taking charge, officials said. Establishments found violating rules have been shut and sealed on the spot.
During the raids, spoiled food, expired items and adulterated products have been seized and destroyed. The drive, aimed at ensuring clean and quality food for the public, has received a positive response from many residents.
A video message praising Munde’s strict enforcement has also gone viral online. In the clip, Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, speaking in Marathi and Hindi, thanked him for the tough rules and said they made people feel safer.
She added that because of such action, she can now eat “peacefully and confidently.” Social media users noted that she is among the first Bollywood actors to publicly back Munde’s crackdown.
