Nila (41), an Indian-origin politician, has been elected to Sweden’s Parliament in the recently concluded parliamentary elections. She contested on the Green Party ticket and secured a win, becoming a member of the legislature.
According to the report, she studied economics and law at a business school and holds a bachelor’s degree as well as an MBA.
Nila is the daughter of Maharashtra educationist Ashok V.K. Patil and the granddaughter of former Union Minister Balasaheb V.K. Patil. She is also related by marriage to Maharashtra minister Radhakrishna V.K. Patil.
She has been associated with Swedish politics for several years and previously worked as an adviser in the Prime Minister’s Office, handling issues linked to finance, taxation and housing.
The report also notes her family’s long-standing links to Maharashtra’s political and education spheres, and mentions that her grandfather V.K. Patil founded Asia’s first cooperative sugar factory.
