TIRUNELVELI: School Education Minister Rajmohan on Saturday said the government is “competing” to deliver public service and that the administration functions only with people’s support.
Speaking to reporters in Tirunelveli, he said opposition members are being given adequate time to speak in the Assembly. He cited instances where leaders from different parties spoke at length, and alleged that when Chief Minister Vijay spoke, DMK members interrupted for about an hour.
Rajmohan also criticised certain members for sitting on the floor, saying it diminished the dignity of the House. He argued that after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam formed the government, more people have been watching Assembly proceedings live and are closely observing both the government and the legislature.
On the demand for a new Assembly building due to crowding, the minister said a new structure may be needed, but the government would decide after hearing public opinion, with the final call to be taken by the Chief Minister. He also defended foreign visits to attract investment, saying such trips are aimed at bringing good investments to Tamil Nadu.
He said the government respects senior Communist leader Shanmugam’s experience and would accept his criticism constructively. Responding to calls for an all-party meeting outside the Assembly, he said the Assembly itself functioned like an all-party forum, and added that the party’s approach is “less talk, more action,” focused on solutions and public welfare.
