Film producer Shanti, the eldest daughter of late actor Sivaji Ganesan and Kamala Ganesan, passed away in the early hours of September 20 in Chennai.
Sivaji Ganesan and Kamala had four children—sons Ramkumar and Prabhu, and daughters Shanti and Thenmozhi. Shanti was the eldest among them.
The well-known Shanti Theatre on Mount Road, a long-time Chennai landmark, was run by the Sivaji family from 1961 and was named after her.
Shanti married Narayanasamy on November 3, 1968, and later took part in film production. She was associated with the production of Sivaji Ganesan’s acclaimed film Thangappathakkam (1974).
After the deaths of Sivaji (2001) and Kamala (2007), Shanti Narayanasamy and her sister Thenmozhi had approached the Madras High Court in connection with a family property division matter. Shanti’s mortal remains have been kept at her residence in Valasaravakkam for the public to pay their respects, with condolences pouring in from the film fraternity and fans.
