Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Maria Wilson on Friday urged the Union government to expedite the release of funds due to the state.

She made the request on the sidelines of a conference of state finance ministers in New Delhi, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, held under the theme “Financing India’s journey towards a developed Bharat.”

According to Wilson, she met Sitharaman and pressed for early disbursal of allocations for centrally partnered programmes in Tamil Nadu, including initiatives linked to local bodies and school education, as well as pending GST compensation.

In a statement, Wilson said she also submitted a memorandum highlighting Tamil Nadu’s economic development and the need to uphold federal rights. She added that issues such as the state’s financial entitlements, disaster relief funds, the Centre’s contribution to key infrastructure projects, and a fair sharing of taxes were raised during the discussions.
