BJP leaders have strongly criticised Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over a mimicry performance in Madhya Pradesh that, they allege, mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother.
The incident took place in Indore during a student programme titled “Shatron Ki Goonj”, where Rahul Gandhi participated in a mimicry segment along with comedian Pulkit Mani. The act reportedly imitated the Prime Minister’s interactions with world leaders and his body language, including waving to crowds and laughing.
According to BJP leaders, the performance also included remarks and gestures that ridiculed the Prime Minister’s deceased mother. After the segment, Rahul Gandhi went on to criticise the Prime Minister, saying the country’s leader should focus on ensuring national security rather than merely cultivating friendships, and questioned the public benefit of such ties.
After the video circulated on social media, BJP national spokesperson C.R. Kesavan accused Rahul Gandhi of endorsing the mockery by laughing on stage, calling it disrespectful to women and “low-grade” political conduct. Union ministers Prahlad Joshi and Kiren Rijiju, along with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, also condemned the act, describing it as inhumane and inappropriate in a student interaction.
