India’s women’s hockey team continued its dominant run at the Asian Games, crushing Indonesia 17-1 in a Pool B match at Aichi–Nagoya.
After opening the campaign with a 19-0 rout of Uzbekistan, India carried the same intensity into the Indonesia game, controlling play from the start and piling on goals throughout.
Deepika Sherawat, 22, who had made headlines with eight goals against Uzbekistan, again led the scoring. She struck in the 8th, 28th and 40th minutes to complete a hat-trick.
Rutuja (15th, 20th, 38th) and Navneet Kaur (35th, 56th, 57th) also registered hat-tricks. Sunelita, Lalremsiami and Sakshi Rana scored two goals each, while captain Salima and Ishaq Chaudhry added one apiece. Indonesia managed only a solitary reply.
With two wins from two matches, India remain in a strong position and will face Thailand in their next fixture on September 23.
