Nepal Police have said the death toll from the flash flood that struck on August 26 has crossed 1,450, while more than 6,000 people remain missing.
The disaster was triggered after a glacier collapse in the Himalayan range near the Tibet border, an area under China’s control, leading to a sudden surge of floodwaters into Nepal.
In Tibet, Chinese media reported 43 deaths and around 500 people missing in connection with the incident.
Search and recovery operations have continued for more than 25 days in Rasuwa and nearby districts, focusing on rivers, debris-filled stretches and damaged hydropower project sites where many are believed to have been swept away.
Officials said only 110 of the recovered bodies have been identified and handed over to families so far. Many bodies were found severely decomposed or fragmented, making identification difficult; DNA samples have been collected from about 1,300 bodies, which were temporarily buried.
