Chennai Chief Minister Vijay has issued a direct instruction to the city’s Police Commissioner to take stringent action against everyone connected to the sexual assault case involving granite businessman Veeramani.
Veeramani, a well-known granite trader from Namakkal district, has been arrested by the Chennai Police’s Central Crime Branch, Anti-Trafficking unit under the POCSO Act and remanded to judicial custody.
Police say the case began after a complaint from a Chennai-based volunteer. During the inquiry, investigators found allegations that several minor girls were brought to Veeramani’s house and sexually abused, and that minors were also sent to other businessmen and prominent individuals.
Searches conducted at locations linked to Veeramani and others allegedly involved led to the seizure of key evidence, including photographs, according to police. In the meantime, more minors have reportedly come forward with complaints against Veeramani and his associates.
Officials said the Police Commissioner has instructed a special team to file the charge sheet quickly. The Chief Minister is also said to have held two rounds of discussions with Commissioner Amalraju over the past two days, stressing that no person involved should be allowed to escape action.
