Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay has congratulated Tamil Nadu shooter Elavenil Valarivan for winning two silver medals at the Asian Games being held in Japan.
In a statement, the Chief Minister noted that Elavenil was part of the Indian women’s team that secured the silver medal in the 10m air rifle event. He also highlighted that she went on to win a silver medal in the individual category as well.
Vijay said the achievements of Indian sportspersons deserve appreciation and can motivate the younger generation to set goals and pursue them with perseverance. He added that the winning journey of athletes who bring pride to India should continue to create new milestones.
Elavenil Valarivan, 27, hails from Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu and studied at Gujarat University. She has previously won medals at events including the Asian Championship, World Cup, World Cup Final and World Championship.
The Asian Games medals mark her first at the continental multi-sport event. She has represented India at the Olympics twice, in 2020 and 2024, and received the Arjuna Award in 2022.
