The BJP has stepped up its attack on the Congress after former Vice President Hamid Ansari’s remarks at a recent event in Delhi triggered a political row.
Addressing the media in Delhi on Monday, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said Ansari referred to A.G. Noorani’s 2019 book, “RSS: A Threat to India.” Trivedi claimed Ansari pointed to passages in the book attributed to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
According to Trivedi, Ansari cited notes recorded by former Foreign Secretary Jagat Singh Gundeviya, in which Nehru was said to have told a meeting of foreign service officers that India’s real danger was not communism but “Hindu right-wing communalism.”
Trivedi said the BJP “welcomed” Ansari for bringing out what he described as the Congress’ ideological background. He further alleged that the Congress had turned into a “Muslim League–Maoist Congress” and accused it of routinely targeting Hindus.
Ansari’s comments, made at the Delhi event, have since become the latest flashpoint in the ongoing political sparring between the BJP and the Congress.
