India claimed their first gold medal at the Asian Games after a dominant win over Sri Lanka in the women’s T20 cricket final on September 22.
The title match was held in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan. Batting first, India piled up 216 for 3 in 20 overs, setting Sri Lanka a steep target of 217.
In reply, Sri Lanka’s captain and opener Chamari made 29, but the rest of the batting line-up fell cheaply. The team was bowled out for 69 in 15.4 overs.
India sealed the final by 147 runs, underlining their control throughout the contest. With this result, India opened their Asian Games campaign with a gold.
As per the medal tally reported, India have won seven medals so far: one gold, four silver and two bronze.
