A shocking incident at Ponneri Government Hospital in Tiruvallur district has raised questions about safety at public hospitals.
According to reports, a temporary woman employee, Rajeswari, was allegedly doused with petrol and set on fire on Monday evening at the hospital premises.
She sustained burn injuries and has been admitted to Kilpauk Government Hospital in Chennai for treatment.
Police said the accused, identified as Prakash, was later found hiding near the Perunjeri cremation ground area. During the attempt to apprehend him, he allegedly attacked Sub-Inspector Thamilarasan, who had gone to arrest him.
Further investigation is under way by the Tiruvallur police.
