Chennai: Minister Rajmohan on Tuesday questioned the DMK government over what he described as an unexplained delay in acting on a POCSO case linked to JEM Veeramani.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he alleged that the file had been “kept inside” without registering a case for nearly a year, and asked who the government was trying to protect. He said the remarks were made while officials were working to create awareness among schoolchildren about POCSO.
Rajmohan said such cases must be handled in a neutral manner and that the objective should be to secure strict punishment for offenders. He also claimed that if any officials or political figures had taken bribes in connection with the matter, action would be taken without leniency.
He further stated that the case was under the Chief Minister’s direct monitoring, with daily updates being sought. He alleged that attempts were made to suppress the case and said it remained unclear for whose benefit the matter was allegedly stalled, adding that a proper probe in the previous regime could have served as a wider awareness message.
